Youth Essay Contest: 2012

“What Does it Mean to Be a Patriot?”
This is the topic for this year's Michigan State Council Knights of Columbus - Essay Contest.  Essays will be accepted from youth in the following age/grade level groups:
  • Level #1- Grades 6-7-8,
  • Level #2- Grades 9-10-11-12
Submissions must also successfully meet the following guidelines:
  • Essays must reflect the theme "What Does it Mean to Be a Patriot?"
  • Essays must be submitted no later than Wednesday, March 14, 2012.
  • Essays must be the original work of the submitter.
  • Essays must be between 300 and 600 words.
  • Submitters name should appear only on the Entry Form (see below) which should be attached to /sent with the submission.
  • All entries become the property of the Knights of Columbus and will not be returned.
  • Essays may be submitted either electronically or typed on 8 1/2” x 11” paper, single-sided, double-spaced, with 1” margins.
Each essay will be judged by a panel of three with the highest scoring from each level being advanced to the State Youth Director for judging in the Michigan K of C Essay Contest.  The council winner at each level will be awarded a $50 gift certificate to Our Lady of Grace Bookstore in Ann Arbor.

Submissions must include the Entry Form, and can be sent as an attachment to or dropped off in an envelop at the parish office.  Please label envelopes or email submissions as "KofC Essay Contest Entry"
